Grammar/ Selective Schools

A grammar or selective school selects by ability. Pupils have to pass an examination to a certain standard, in order to gain entry. The examination is sometimes still known as an 11+  A minority of local authorities in England still have grammar schools, and some have selective schools, which are grammar, all but in name.

How does this affect your choice of school?

A highly academic student would be likely to thrive in a grammar school. Grammar schools impact on their neighbouring non-grammar secondary schools, sometimes by creaming off the brightest pupils.
