Special Educational Needs

All schools have an SEN, Special Educational Needs, department which is dedicated to students with particular behavioural and learning needs, for example, problems with reading. Some schools have more pupils with special educational needs than others.

How does this affect your choice of school?

Parents who do not have children with special educational needs sometimes think that a school with ‘too many’ special needs pupils will mean their children suffer. This is very rarely the case.  If a school’s special needs pupils achieve well, it is more often the case that all their pupils achieve well. It is important to research a school’s special needs department, regardless of whether your child officially has special needs or not. A good special needs department impacts positively upon all students in a school.
